Last Call to get on board…with SW Storm
When you are named after a weather formation which sometimes causes devastation, you have no real choice but to live up to that name. SW Storm is back and ready to create another stir! Truly living up to his name, SW Storm has been creating quite a stir and is continuing the momentum for 2012 by adding to it a new Power Soca release; “The Last Call”
With so much hype and talk about 2012 being the end of the world, Storm says it’s the “Last Call” to love somebody, to jump up and mash up the party; get ready to celebrate. Like a true Trinbagonian, Storm plans to party hard like it’s the end of time.
One would have thought waving flags, wining low and jumping high would be as good a way as any to say goodbye to life on earth, but in this case it’s much more comforting to be skeptical. Storm however is taking no chances and rips and roars with the energy of a man who intends to destroy the dancefloor long before the big barman in the sky shouts “Last Call”; I know that is how many would want to spend their last day on earth and Storms’ 2012 offering is the perfect soundtrack.
Every year without malice or doubt, SW Storm pens brilliant lyrics accompanied by on point vocals and unique musical accompaniment. This year the London born, Toronto-based Trini has teamed up with ace producer Shawn “Mastamind” Noel of Mastamind Productions to create the powerful smash hit “The Last Call” with the hopes of leaving his mark once again. Storm has kept busy throughout 2011 with the launch of his own band “SW Storm &The Raw” which has been receiving rave reviews touring throughout Canada and the USA. According to Storm “I create music that is relevant and thought provoking, I give music lovers the music I know they want to hear..great music.”
As promised Storm continues to release quality music in and out of Carnival, look out for the SW Storm the Soca Ambassador during Carnival 2012 and beyond…The clock is ticking... Don’t miss this call…It’sThe Last Call to get on board…Don’t be left out!!

The lawsuit also claims Richard is using the Marley name to market a yearly concert in Miami, called the 9 Mile Music Festival - 9 Mile which refers to the Jamaican village where Bob was born and buried. Bob's family says they have the rights to the use of the name Marley and want all of his brother’s profits and for him to not use his name in the future.

Randy Glasgow is reintroducing Youth Fest!!
In a bid to aid a number of up and coming young artists, promoter Randy Glasgow is reintroducing his once popular Youth Fest event. The last time the event took place was back in 2007. Glasgow said he has decided to bring the Youth Fest back because he is seeing a new youth movement in the local music arena on the horizon and there is again the need for an event such as the Youth Fest to cater to the nation’s teens and young adults. He said that even the original title sponsor of the Youth Fest, Coca Cola has been encouraging him to bring it back now. Glasgow has also sent out a special request to Trinidad-born hip-hop artiste, Nicki Minaj for her to make a special guest appearance at the event. There will also be other international and regional artistes performing alongside major local soca acts and some 30 new developing calypso, soca, rapso and chutney artistes that will be selected to perform. The show will take place on February 4th at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain. No alcohol of any kind will be available at the venue and the promoter will work closely with the police to ensure there is no access to alcohol once one is inside nor will anyone be able to enter with alcoholic drinks.

1st place “Humanity; Circle of Life” MacFarlane Carnival 1335 points
2nd place “Tales of Merry Olde England” Trini Revelers 1278 points
3rd place “South Pacific” Legacy 1198 points
Brian MacFarlane’s 2011 winning presentation ‘Humanity; Circle of Life’ was his fifth consecutive win for the coveted Large Band of the Year title and he just needs one more win to tie with legendary mas man Wayne Berkley’s record for 6 consecutive victories which he won from 1989 to 19994. Although joyous about the results, Brian MacFarlane was sorely disappointed with the band’s long wait to experience the stage. Stating that he may not be back next year on the stage, he still believes that the Government still has a lot to do to make the Carnival experience better. MacFarlane’s 2011 presentation, ‘Humanity; Circle of Life’ was made to wait almost 4 hours to cross the grand stage and appeared before the judges just before 9 o’clock Tuesday evening.
Machel Takes ‘Advantage’ of the New Stage
Machel Montano was named early yesterday as the official Road March for Carnival 2011, making it his fourth official title win as it was the most played song at the Downtown Carnival judging points. ‘Advantage’ was the clear contender for the title right from the gate, it was played an over whelming 410 times, distancing itself from its nearest competitor Benji’s ‘Trini’ which was only heard a paltry 110 times at the seven judging points. Third place went to Neil ‘Iwer’ George’s ‘Come to Meh’ which only received 61 plays to take home third place. Masqueraders were overjoyed to return to the stage after a four year absence which Machel believes was the fuel behind his success. Many of the large and medium bands featured the popular song which also won him the Power Soca title on Fantastic Friday when he got the judges’ nod of approval and took home the inaugural 2 million dollar first prize. Some other fans, though, disagree with the final decision as many claim that Neil ‘Iwer’ George was overlooked for his energetic and elaborate stage performance which landed him in second place.
Karene Asche wins Coveted National Calypso Monarch Title
Young Karene Asche shocked the Dimanche Gras crowds on Sunday night when she won the Calypso Monarch title, upsetting veteran performers like Cro Cro, Chalkdust and reigning Calypso Monarch Kurt Allen with her powerful social commentaries, ‘Be Careful What Yuh Ask For’ and ‘Uncle Jack’ taking home the artform’s highly coveted first place prize of 2 million dollars at the Queen’s Park Savannah. Sugar Aloes (Michael Osouna) and Chalkdust (Dr Hollis Liverpool) both former monarchs themselves were made to settle for second and third place respectively while former Calypso Monarch Kurt Allen was relegated to sixth place. For his contributions ‘Not One Word’ and ‘The Cause’ Aloes went on to receive the second place prize of $500,000 with Chalkdust walking away with the third place prize of $250,000 for his compositions ‘Wounded Pride’ and a newly penned piece entitled ‘Power of the Pen’. For his choices ‘Tribute to Atilla the Hun’ and ‘Do So’ Kurt Allen was only able to secure sixth place with no cash reward while both a stage legend Cro Cro (Weston Rawlins) and newcomer Benji (Rodney Le Blanc) had to settle for 11th and last place respectively with their offerings ‘Compare and Contrast’ and ‘Kam Lie’ and the seasonally popular ‘Trini’ and ‘Wine to De Side’ failed to impress the judges, but won over all present in the stands.
Carnival King and Queen to Rule with Extravagance
The Dimanche Gras stage was the idyllic setting for Sunday’s Parade of the Carnival Kings and Queens as twenty kings and queens graced the North and Grand Stands in all their splendor and glory as they represented various bands from different parts of the country. But the night truly belonged to the stunning pair of veteran masquerader Wayne Madray for his portrayal Pacific Tsunami, from the band Legacy and Peola Marchan, who also won the South Carnival Queen Title with her breathtaking costume D’ Jeweled Chandelier, from the band Wee People International, comprised of three large crystal pieces which lit up as she crossed the stage.
Capturing the natural rhythmic movements of the element in shimmering shades of blue, silver and lapis lazuli, Madray was quite able to move the massive costume with the natural movements synonymous of ocean waves, leaving both the judges and the gathered crowds speechless. Knocking the South King of Carnival Owen Hinds Jr into second place with his portrayal The Battle of the Marabuntas and last year’s winner Curtis Eustace settling for third place with Bozo D Legend Lives.
Peola’s impressive costume looked quite regal with its three chandeliers but it wasn’t the only light themed portrayal, as Gloria Dallsingh’s Splendor of Light came in second. Designed by Dallsingh and representing another south band Kalicharan and Associates, her costume was just barely edged out from the top spot by Peola but was more than enough to keep her from slipping to third place, which went to Kay Mason and her portrayal Island Queen. The beauty of the night was marred with several ugly incidents that affected the judges’ final decision such as a disappointing performance by Brian MacFarlane’s King, Gerard Weeks and his portrayal In the Beginning-Good and Evil and his Queen, Sevell Nicholls fell from her stilts during her crossing of the stage in her costume, In the End- Dance and Rejoice. Although she was able to get back to her perch with the helps of her support crew, it was already the beginning of the end, as she placed last. The night also saw a dismal performance by the first queen to cross the stage Gayle Marcano when her costume D Ruby Brooch was unfortunately damaged when it was hit by a camera boom. But, being a true queen, she went on to finish her routine on stage and managed to secure fifth place.
The Results
Wade Madray–Pacific Tsunami
Owen Hinds Jr.–Battle of the Marabuntas
Curtis Eustace–Bozo D Legend Lives On

All Stars Crowned 2011 Panorama Champions
Neal and Massy Trinidad All Stars created history when they placed first in the 2011 Blink Bmobile National Panorama finals in the Large Band category last Saturday evening which saw them walk away with top prize of $2 million dollars at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port of Spain. With a wonderful rendition of ‘It’s Showtime’ composed by the dynamic duo of Edwin Pouchet and Alvin Daniell the band scored 278 points which was enough for them to secure their eighth Panorama title and knock defending champs PSC Silver Stars to third place. Second place was awarded to Sagicor Exodus who received $1 million dollars and 276 points for their sterling performance of ‘Calling Meh’ arranged by Pelham Goddard and composed by the powerful combination of Mark Loquan and Ken ‘Professor’ Philmore, as for almost nine minutes the orchestra belted out the well known Destra tune to a very appreciative crowd. Last year’s champs PSC Silver Stars fell to third place with ‘It’s Showtime’ also arranged by Pouchet by a single point to take home the cash prize of $ 750,000
The judging for the Medium Band division, however, would not be as simple as there were three separate ties among the ten finalists. Valley Harps and Katzenjammers both tied for first place with Katzenjammers performing ‘Wake Up’, another masterpiece arranged by the duo of Pouchet and Daniell and Valley Harps offering ‘Do Something for Pan’ saw both bands receive 275 points. Arranged by Michelle Huggins-Watts, Valley Harps held both the North and Grand Stand in rapt attention and would give all present something to ponder when the results were read. The sister island took the spotlight when NLCB Buccooners was given the nod for third place and the purse of $550,000 with their interpretation of Destra’s massive 2011 hit ‘Calling Meh’ arranged by Seion Gomez. Fourth place honours went to Courts Sounds Specialist from Laventille, while Pan Elders fell to fifth place. The ‘Beast from the East’ Sangre Grande Cordettes walked away with sixth position while Steel Xplosion and Arima Angel Harps wrestled to a draw in seventh place. The final tie went to Power Stars and Pamberi for ninth place.

The night also saw a dismal performance by the first queen to cross the stage Gayle Marcano when her costume D Ruby Brooch was unfortunately damaged when it was hit by a camera boom. But, being a true queen, she went on to finish her routine on stage and managed to secure fifth place.
